FAQs

When should I visit a Reflexologist?
People choose to have a reflexology treatment for many different reasons. You do not have to be ill to benefit from a treatment – you can visit a reflexologist for pure pleasure of having your feet ‘massaged’ for an hour. Because reflexology is a balancing treatment, this will keep you happy and in optimum health. However, you can also benefit from a treatment when you are ill, stressed or just feeling ‘under the weather’ and run down.

Are there any age restrictions on who can have a treatment?
Reflexology is a safe treatment for people of all ages – there are no upper or lower age limits! Children under the age of 16 will require parental consent before a treatment can be given. The reflexologist will adjust the pressure which is applied according to the age of the client.

How often should I visit a Reflexologist?
This will depend on your reasons for wanting a reflexology treatment. If you are in good health, and are looking to maintain this, the reflexologist will recommend a monthly treatment to keep all your body’s systems in balance. However, if you are seeking treatment for chronic or acute conditions, then frequency and quantity of treatments will vary. Please discuss this with your reflexologist. Every person is an individual, and reactions and outcomes will vary.

Why does the first consultation last longer than subsequent ones?
At the first consultation you will need to discuss your medical history and lifestyle with the reflexologist. This will include any past or present medications, operations and any emotional traumas or upsets which you have experienced in your life. All information is confidential. Using this information, the reflexologist can work out a treatment plan for you, and give you an indication of how many treatments maybe required.

Will Reflexology hurt me?
Reflexology should not be a painful experience, but there may be areas on your feet which may be tender or sore during the treatment. This would indicate to the reflexologist that these reflexes are out of balance, so she will work gently to rebalance these reflexes and will discuss her findings with you.

I have very ticklish feet – does Reflexology tickle?
Reflexology should not tickle! The pressure is very gentle and is applied with the pads of the fingers and thumbs. Clients with very ticklish feet are surprised at how they are able to tolerate a treatment, and usually comment that it is not what they expected!

Can I have a reflexology treatment if I have a verruca or athlete’s foot?
Yes. The reflexologist will either cover the infected area with a plaster or some micropore tape, or she will wear gloves. This is to prevent cross infection.

How can a reflexology treatment balance and revitalise me?
We live in a very busy and stressful world, and constantly ignore our body’s calls to slow down and relax. Reflexology is an extremely relaxing therapy, and many clients drift into a very deep state of relaxation, or fall asleep during their treatment. This enables the body’s own healing mechanisms to work and encourages the body’s own energy flow, which enables the body and mind to rediscover their own state of balance.
